My DSL company was Qwest and they would constantly try to downgrade me w/o telling me so I switched to roadrunner and have been very pleased thus far. Cost benefit is much higher

I first got Cable internet in 1999, and have been a subscriber on and off. I also have had DSL. DSL is a lot more stable and dependable, as far as speed goes. But I have never exceeded the advertised speed of what I was paying for, on Cable or DSL, until we got Comcast again this year. The penalty was always a 30%-20% reduction of the advertised speed.

Prowler, no internet company will guaranty a specific speed, especially with Cable ISP. Cable internet is kind of like “party line” of the 20’s, when you could call someone, but you would hear more than one conversation on the same line. In a locality, Cable internet is actually shared by as many subscribers that use it in the area. So, if you are getting 7Mbs, that sounds about right for a 15Mbs subscription. In my case I got 25Mbs on a 15Mbs subscription. I lucked out. When we move to the new house I’m expecting that number to drop.
